Framed Print of Devonshire Tiara, c. 1893-97 (diamond, silver & gold)

3060239 Devonshire Tiara, c.1893-97 (diamond, silver and gold) by Skinner, A.E. (fl.1897); eThe Devonshire Collections, Chatsworth; (add.info.: Made for Louise Duchess (1832-1911), the German-born wife of the 8th Duke of Devonshire, known as the Double Duchess. She was a famous beauty in her youth and in later years a formidable leader of society and fashion, known particularly for the magnificent jewellery she wore. She married the 8th Duke in 1892 when she was sixty, having formerly been married to the Duke of Manchester, thus gaining her name The Double Duchess.
To make it hundreds of diamonds were removed from the famous Devonshire Parure and from other heirlooms, including the 6th Dukes Garter star. These totalled 1, 041 stones, to which Skinner added a further 840.); Reproduced by permission of Chatsworth Settlement Trustees; British, out of copyright. © Reproduced by permission of Chatsworth Settlement Trustees / Bridgeman Images
