Steel engraving by unknown artist. Published by The London Printing and Publishing Company Limited, 1860 circa.
Although several regiments were disarmed before they had the chance to join the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859), in most cases British officers refused to doubt the loyalty of their men until it was too late. Eventually all ten Bengal Cavalry Regiments and most of the 74 Native Infantry Regiments were affected.); eNational Army Museum; out of copyright. © National Army Museum / Bridgeman Images
