This view was painted in 1836 by Benjamin Green to present their ideas (the figures were contributed by another local artist, Thomas Miles Richardson, Senior). The monument was built 1837-38 with money donated by the public. It celebrated the success of the 1832 Reform Act, which was promoted by Earl Grey.
