In 1806 Grenville became an enthusiastic supporter of plans to attack Spanish interests in South America. This manuscript, drawn by a Frenchman, was probably part of the intelligence gathering before the attack on Montevideo. The British captured the city easily but were driven out by a popular uprising.
The plan shows the city's defences and lines of fire, and the anchorage.
