Brass button made by J R Gaunt and Son Limited, London, with the regimental number and bugle-horn on a wreathed circlet inscribed, Carnatic Light Infantry', surmounted by crown.
The 65th Carnatic Light Infantry was formed in 1903 from the 5th Madras Infantry. The unit's origin went back to 1759 and the raising of the 6th Battalion of Coast Sepoys. The regiment was disbanded in 1904.
