Three characters wait in a large studio for the painter to come: a young Italian woman, an old man and a child holding a bilboquet. The room is cluttered with objects: books, jewelry, a mandolin, a psyche, hangings, paintings, a copy of the Venus de Milo, a plaster bas-relief. The painter's equipment includes easel, palette and brushes. The three models look into the mirror.
