double-breasted waistcoat of a Lieutenant of blue wool with stand-up collar. The waistcoat fastens with 2 rows of 10 small gilt brass buttons. The waistcoat was meant to be worn with all buttons fastened as is evident since the buttonholes are finished on one side only. There are two long, shallow pockets in the front lined with brown linen. The inside of the waistcoat is lined with a beige cotton twill fabric. The stand-up collar is lined with blue wool and bears traces of dirt. At the back of the waistcoat are four linen tapes for adjustment.); © National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London. © © National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London / Bridgeman Images
