Dr Dietrich Prinz (1903 - 1989, right) of the Ferranti electrical engineering company, sets a chess problem taken from the New Statesman magazine, to the Ferranti Mark 1 (also known as the Manchester Electronic Computer), Manchester, February 1955. The computer, which is limited to mate-in-two chess problems, solved the problem in 15 minutes.
