(Original Caption). A giant new aircraft carrier which will bear a name famous in American history is taking shape at the New York Naval Shipyard on the Brooklyn waterfront. She's the U.S.S. Saratoga the sixth U.S. fighting ship to bear the name since Revolutionary War days. This scene shows a bow view of the Saratoga (foreground) looking aft. The Saratoga and her sister carrier, the Forrestal, now about a year from completion at Newport News, Va. will be the largest ships afloat, breaking the size record held for years by Britain's Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. When the Saratoga takes to the water, probably about a year and a half from now, she'll be the highest powered ship.
