Everton footballer Gary Stevens pictured the day after his tackle broke the leg of Liverpool player Jim Beglin in the two teams Littlewoods Cup quarter final clash.
The incident sparked a furious -war of words after the game, while
Beglin was in a hospital bed being treated for what Anfield boss Bob
Paisley described as: One of the worst breaks I have ever seen.'
Stevens was shocked by the reaction and that of other Liverpool players who protested so furiously at the time that Ronnie Whelan was booked.
Stevens defended himself I lost control of the ball and went to retrieve
it there was no maliintent at all,
