David Bishop - Pontypool RFC scrum half who broke his neck when he got caught in a scrum v Aberavon - 27th January 1982 - Western Mail and Echo Copyright *David Bishop, the scrum-half who came back after suffering a broken neck, is poised to climax an amazing return. As reward for his outstanding form in recent matches for Pontypool, David is in the Monmouthshire side to play the touring Maoris at Newport. In his final warm-up game before the encounter, David clinched a hat-trick of tries in Pontypoolis 25-12 victory over Bridgend. But just 10 months ago he faced the prospect of paralysis after a four-hour operation to his shattered body when he brushed with death on the pitch after being crushed in a ruck and stretchered off at Aberavon. The 22-year-old loft insulator confessed: iI donit want to be branded a hero n Iim only doing what I enjoy. © Mirrorpix
