Framed Print of One of the features of canal architecture are the barrel-roffed cottages dotted along

One of the features of canal architecture are the barrel-roffed cottages dotted along the banks. Mrs Jean Bates lives in one at Lowsonford with her mother and father. Originally they were built for canal employees, and Mrs Bates grandfather actually worked on hte canal. But with the decline of the number of men emplyed in maintaining it, the cottages passed into the hands of people who had nothing to do with either opening lockgates or keeping them in order.
