Framed Prints From Memory Lane

Framed Print of On the night of 29th - 30th April 1944, RAF Bombers attacked the Clermont

On the night of 29th - 30th April 1944, RAF Bombers
attacked the Clermont Ferrand/Aulnat Airfield in German occupied France.
The next day April 30th, USaF Day bombers followed
up the attack with a second blow. So accurate was the bombing that, out of the many buildings and
hangers in the south-east corner of the airfield
(including the Atelier Industriels de L Air), only
the sick bay was undamaged
Two very large hangers collapsed and nine others were severely damaged.
Extensive damage was done to main workshop and offices and 40 smaller buildings stand roofless or totally
destroyed. The railway Station area and tracks were
left pitted with craters. Tarmac and runways were
obliterated at many points and about 11 craters were
seen in the northern half of the landing ground.
At least 7 damaged planes were counted nearby.
Picture shows; A Lancaster of RAF Bomber
Command streaking over the target during the
attack.
