GOING “SHANNONISTIC” OUT OF ST IVES

It depicts the St. Ives Shannon Class All Weather Lifeboat, Nora Stachura, heading out of the Harbour at great speed into a vibrant and very late sunset with a large rising moon. The Shannon is the first modern-generation all-weather lifeboat to run on waterjets rather than propellers. This allows the vessel to operate in shallow waters. Waterjets provide greater control when alongside other craft, in confined waters and in all sea conditions. There has been a lifeboat station at St Ives for well over 100 years, a lifeboat having been stationed there in 1840. RNLI St Ives has a rich history of gallantry and has been awarded Thirty-eight medals, consisting of 18 Silver and 20 Bronze.
