Didinium sp. ciliate protozoan, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This tiny single-celled organism is found in freshwater and marine habitats. It is a predatory organism, feeding on other ciliate protozoans, mainly Paramecium. It has two girdles of cilia (yellow), which are used for locomotion, and a prominent snout (lower centre) that is used as a probing and seizing organ during feeding.
