Framed Print of British BE2a fighter plane, World War I C014 / 2041

British BE2a fighter plane. The BE2 was a Bleriot Experimental biplane model produced by the Royal Aircraft Factory (later the Royal Aircraft Establishment). Around 3500 of these aircraft were built for the Royal Flying Corps from 1912 and during the First World War (1914-1918). A relatively primitive two-seater aircraft, carrying a pilot and a gunner, it was replaced by later designs as the war progressed. This BE2a (an early version) has been captured by the Germans. The non-roundel markings indicate it dates from 1914 or 1915. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USAs earliest news picture libraries. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © LIBRARY OF CONGRESS/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
