Framed Print of Cycles Sirius Poster, Henri Gray, 1899

Created in 1899 by artist Henri Gray (Henri Boulanger) for Cycles Sirius, 14 and 16 Rue Duret, Paris. The modern poster dates back to the mid 19th century, when several separate but related changes took place. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and informative. Posters may be used for many purposes. They are a frequent tool of advertisers, propagandists, protestors and other groups trying to communicate a message. By the 1890s, poster art had widespread usage in other parts of Europe, advertising everything from bicycles to bullfights. © Science Source
