Heathrow Airport, June 1959: A bustling hub of activity and celebrity sightings. Boeing 377-10 Stratocruiser HC-AGA (ex N1040V) took off with the Corbett family, including Ronnie and his wife Anne, and their daughters Sophie, 5, and Emma. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales, Charles, touched down for Fiji's Independence celebrations. Playwright John Osborne and his wife, actress Jill Bennett, also bid farewell to the airport. Phil Silvers, famously known as Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko on TV, arrived, as did the elegant Lauren Bacall from Rome. The Duchess of Kent graced the scene, disembarking from an R.A.F plane from Singapore. Elsewhere, Municipal Airport in Huron, South Dakota, prepared for its own arrivals and departures.
