Alan May: A Sidecar TT Legend For over four decades, it has been a prominent figure in the world of sidecar racing. With his numerous victories and partnerships with esteemed co-drivers, May has left an indelible mark on this thrilling motorsport. One of his earliest successes came in 1976 when he teamed up with Mick Gray to conquer the 1000 Sidecar TT aboard a Weslake machine. This triumph set the stage for many more memorable races to come. In 1977, May joined forces with Mick Gray once again, this time riding a Yamaha bike. Their partnership proved formidable as they clinched victory at the Sidecar TT that year. The duo's chemistry and skill were undeniable. Throughout the years, May continued to forge successful alliances with talented co-drivers. In 1981 and 1983 respectively, he partnered with Micky Gray (Yamaha) and Capital Yamaha's Micky Gray to secure wins at the prestigious Sidecar TT event. May's dedication to excellence was evident in his consistent performances. In both 1978 and 1990, he achieved podium finishes alongside Mickey Gray (Skillicorn Yamaha) and Arthur Gale (Yamaha). These achievements showcased his ability to adapt to different machines while maintaining top-tier results. The year 1986 marked another milestone for Alan May as he paired up with Ian Finch on a Yamaha bike for yet another triumphant ride at the Sidecar TT race. His versatility as a racer shone through once again. May's final victory came in collaboration with Thomas Pettman on an Ireson Kawasaki machine during the 1993 edition of the Sidecar TT event. This win served as a testament to his enduring passion for sidecar racing even after so many years competing at such high levels.
