"The Rhythm Makers: Celebrating the Bassists Who Set the Beat" From The Beatles to The Ink Spots, bassists have been an integral part of shaping the sound and feel of music throughout history. In this captivating collection of photographs, we catch a glimpse into the world of these talented musicians who brought groove and depth to some of our favorite songs. In 1965, iconic band The Beatles strike a pose for the camera, showcasing their unity as George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney stand side by side. Among them is McCartney himself, known not only for his mesmerizing vocals but also his incredible skills on the bass guitar. Moving forward to December 1986 at The Bell in Codicote, Hertfordshire, we find Spike Heatley passionately playing his bass. His fingers dance across the strings with finesse and precision as he captivates audiences with his melodic prowess. Ron Carter takes center stage at North Sea Jazz Festival in 2003. With each note he plays on his bass guitar, he effortlessly transports listeners into a realm where jazz reigns supreme. His talent shines through every performance as he becomes one with his instrument. Traveling back in time to the 1930s and 1940s brings us to The Ink Spots - an American vocal group that left an indelible mark on popular music. Their harmonies were beautifully complemented by their skilled bassist whose rhythmic foundation provided a solid backbone for their timeless melodies. The Newport Jazz Festival in July 1978 sees Ronnie Boykins take charge of the stage with his powerful presence and skillful handling of the bass guitar. As notes reverberate through Ayresome Park in Middlesbrough, Boykins leaves no doubt about why he is considered one of jazz's finest talents. A few years later in Stevenage Hertfordshire during 1984 captures Big Chief Russell Moore, Arvell Shaw, and Barrett Deems in action.
