From daring heists to shocking crimes, these captivating artworks reveal the dark allure of rebellion and criminality. In a haunting mug shot from 1913, Vincenzo Peruggia's face tells the story of his audacious theft - the Mona Lisa stolen from the Louvre. The enigmatic smile that once captivated millions now became a symbol of intrigue and mystery. The Fourmies secret hides beneath its engraving a clandestine cover for Le Pilori in 1892. A forbidden truth concealed within its intricate lines, it whispers secrets only known to those who dare to uncover them. Martin Luther stands alongside Hans Kohlhase, an infamous robber whose exploits shook Germany during the 16th century. This engraving captures their unlikely alliance, blurring the line between heroism and villainy. The assassination of King Henry IV unfolds before our eyes in a chilling engraving from 1897. The tragic demise of a monarch at the hands of treachery serves as a reminder that even rulers are not immune to betrayal. Medardo Rosso's sculpture "Lo scaccino" portrays an enigmatic figure shrouded in darkness. Is this mysterious character merely an innocent bystander or does he harbor sinister intentions? The answer lies within one's interpretation. Beatrice Cenci gazes out from her oil canvas with haunted eyes - her story steeped in tragedy and injustice. Her portrait serves as both evidence and testament to her defiance against societal norms that led her down a path towards infamy. "The Humbert Family at the Crown Court" depicts scandalous events captured by Le Petit Journal in August 1903. As spectators peer through ink-stained pages, they witness courtroom drama unfold, exposing the dark underbelly of society.
