Barmy Steve Cooper has just had his head shaved for Charity in readiness for tomorrow's British Steel Family Gala at Redcar, when he will male a realistic King of Siam. The 31-year-old of Hedley Close, Yarm, will grace the Lackenby beam mill float, which has an Eastern Culture theme. The sponsorship cash will go to the South Cleveland special baby care unit. 3rd July 1992

Danielle was accidentally left out of the big fancy dress float competition presentation at the Teesside Steel Family Gala. Wet Weather at the Kirkleatham Showground meant the arena wouldn't take all the floats as planned and only the winning float was put on show. Danielle's chums in the runner up award didn't miss out as they were on the float but disappointed Danielle was left on the side lines with borrowed horse Darkie. 13th July 1992

Part of British steel's drive to beat pollution on Teesside. The chimneys of the Lackenby open hearth plant lie dormant due to plant closure. In all 23 chimneys have been eliminated by the introduction of the basic oxygen steel making plant at Lackenby. 26th September 1972
