Colibris, also known as hummingbirds, are a fascinating group of birds that captivate us with their vibrant colors and incredible flight abilities. From the Green-throated carib to the Sombre hummingbird, each species possesses its own unique beauty. The Green-throated carib, Eulampis holosericeus, is a male adult bird with an emerald green throat that shimmers in the sunlight. Its iridescent feathers make it a true gem of the avian world. In contrast, the Sombre hummingbird, Aphantochroa cirrochloris, showcases more muted tones with its olive-green plumage. Despite its understated appearance, this bird still manages to capture our attention with its delicate features. Another striking species is the Swallow-tailed hummingbird, Eupetomena macroura. With its long tail feathers resembling elegant streamers trailing behind it during flight, this bird is truly a sight to behold. The Amazilia hummingbird (dumerilii), Amazilia for short, boasts stunning shades of green and blue on its body. This tiny creature flits from flower to flower like a miniature jewel in search of nectar. The Green-tailed trainbearer, Lesbia nuna exhibits an enchanting combination of deep purple and emerald green hues. It gracefully hovers near flowers while sipping sweet nectar using its elongated bill. As juveniles grow into adulthood like the Long-billed starthroat Heliomaster longirostris or Berylline hummingbird Amazilia beryllina they develop even more vibrant colors and patterns that distinguish them from other species. Among these remarkable creatures is the White-eared hummingbird Basilinna leucotis; females possess subtle yet exquisite white markings around their ears which add elegance to their overall appearance.
