On the anniversary of the Battle of Ortigara, the pilgrimage of more than six thousand Alpine enthusiasts gathered under the majestic colonnades. The vibrant colour litho captured their fervor and unity as they paid homage to those who fought valiantly in that historic battle. Transporting us back to a bygone era, we find ourselves strolling along The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells. This chromolitho masterpiece from 1890-1900 showcases elegant colonnades lining the street, exuding an air of sophistication and charm. Stepping into history's embrace, we are greeted by Castle Coole's grand entrance front. Captured through a black-and-white photograph from Giles Worsley's England's Lost Houses collection, this image transports us to a time when these magnificent colonnades welcomed esteemed guests with open arms. As we wander further into Hill Hall in Essex, another captivating black-and-white photo reveals a hall adorned with exquisite colonnades. This snapshot from 1917 serves as both a testament to its former glory and a poignant reminder of what once was. Moving on to Highhead Castle in Cumberland, yet another treasure from Giles Worsley's collection beckons our attention. A corridor stretching endlessly before us is flanked by regal colonnades that evoke feelings of awe and wonderment at the architectural prowess displayed within England's lost houses. Venturing beyond photography and paintings, we encounter an oil on canvas masterpiece depicting a classical architectural garden adorned with elegant figures against a backdrop of mountainous landscapes. These carefully crafted colonnades serve not only as structural elements but also as symbols of grace and refinement. In Philip IV and his Queen in a Colonnade, c. 1630, an oil on canvas painting takes center stage showcasing royalty basking in the splendorous ambiance created by ornate colonnades surrounding them. Their regal presence is heightened against this backdrop which exudes power and opulence.
