Des Connor, a legendary motorcycle racer, left an indelible mark on the racing world with his exceptional skills and numerous victories. In 1977, riding for Yamaha, he showcased his talent at the Lightweight Manx Grand Prix. The crowd was in awe as Des fearlessly maneuvered through the challenging course, leaving his competitors trailing behind. Years later, in 2016, Des took part in a Parade Lap riding an MV bike. Despite the passage of time, his passion for motorcycles remained unwavering as he delighted fans with his graceful presence on the track. The Southern 100 races were witness to Des's dominance on multiple occasions. In both 1980 and 1979 editions of this prestigious event, he rode a Yamaha bike to secure victory. His unmatched determination and skill made him a force to be reckoned with. In addition to conquering the Southern 100 races, Des also participated in the renowned Manx Grand Prix in 1980. With sheer determination coursing through his veins and adrenaline pumping through every fiber of his being, he pushed himself beyond limits to achieve greatness. Throughout his career, Des had a special affinity for lightweight bikes. This was evident during the Lightweight Manx Grand Prix in 1980 when he once again rode a Yamaha bike to triumph over formidable opponents. Even after retiring from professional racing, Des continued to share his love for motorcycles by participating in events such as VMCC Parade Laps. In 2012 while riding an MV bike during one such lap session organized by VMCC (Vintage Motorcycle Club), he reminded everyone why he was considered one of the greats. Des's journey wasn't just about personal achievements; it also involved forming strong partnerships within the racing community. One notable collaboration occurred alongside Mike Kneen at Jurby Road race circuit back in 1976 where they both rode Yamaha bikes together - showcasing their camaraderie and shared passion for the sport. Des's connection with Jurby Airfield was also significant.
