From his early days partnering with John Gibbard on a Honda in the 1981 Sidecar TT to his later triumphs alongside renowned riders like Paul Chesters, Steve Knowles, and Ray Burns, Tapken's name has become synonymous with skill and determination. In 1983, Tapken joined forces with Fred Walker on a Derbyshire Kawasaki, showcasing their exceptional teamwork during the Sidecar TT. Their synchronized maneuvers left spectators awe-inspired as they navigated through treacherous bends and pushed their limits to secure an impressive finish. Tapken's passion for sidecar racing continued to burn bright throughout the years. In 2007, he took part in a Parade Lap alongside Villum Van Diss on a Jacobs Yamaha. The crowd erupted with applause as they witnessed this iconic duo paying homage to the sport that had shaped their lives. Notable partnerships also include Peter Williams on a Yamaha in 1980 and Rick Roberts on a Jacobs Yamaha in 2004. These collaborations further solidified Tapken's reputation as an accomplished racer who could adapt seamlessly to different machines and riding styles. The Sidecar TT races were not without challenges, but Tapken faced them head-on alongside Clive Price (Jacobs Kawasaki) in 1990 and Alan Blackhurst (Jacob Yamaha) in 1988. Together, they conquered formidable tracks while pushing themselves beyond their limits – true testaments to their unwavering dedication. One of his most memorable victories came when he teamed up with Roland Martiny on a Jacobs Honda for the thrilling Sidecar TT race of 2002.
