Diverticulitis: An inflammatory condition affecting the diverticula, small pouches that form in the descending colon. These pouches, visible in diverticulosis, can lead to painful and sometimes debilitating symptoms when they become inflamed. Diverticulitis can be diagnosed through various imaging techniques such as barium X-rays (C018/0574, C016/8338) or CT scans. While diverticulitis can cause discomfort and complications, it's important to note that having diverticulosis does not necessarily mean one will develop diverticulitis. However, a small risk of colon cancer exists with diverticulosis, so regular screenings are recommended. (Illustration of diverticulosis in the colon) #Health #GutHealth #ColonHealth #Diverticulitis
