The New York City Draft Riots of 1863 were a violent and chaotic period in the city's history. Lasting from July 13th to July 16th, these riots were fueled by anger and frustration over the newly implemented draft for the Civil War. During this tumultuous time, mobs roamed the streets, wreaking havoc on various establishments. One such target was Brooks Brothers clothing store, which fell victim to looting and destruction at the hands of an enraged mob. The scene was captured in contemporary wood engravings that depicted the chaos and lawlessness that prevailed during those days.
