Discover the fascinating world of Earthstars. These unique fungi, such as the Common Earth-star (Geastrum triplex), are characterized by their distinctive, globular fruiting bodies. As they mature, the outer exoperidium splits to reveal the inner spore sac (AE-5972-8589, AE-5972-8577, AE-5972-8568, AE-5972-8554). The Rosy Earthstar, another Earthstar species, can be found on the forest floor in deciduous woodlands (second and third image). As seasons change, Earthstars continue their life cycle, shedding spores (fourth image, Bedfordshire UK 14918). Amidst leaf litter and fallen Sweet Chestnut burrs in an Italian woodland, the Common Earth-star patiently waits to begin its next stage of growth (fifth and sixth image).
