King David's court echoed with the melodic strains of harps and lyres, but fast-forward to the Renaissance era, and the Savoy dynasty's patronage of music brought new symphonic harmonies. Philibert of Savoy, Duke of Savoy, was an ardent supporter of the arts, commissioning compositions for his personal chapel. His successor, Charles Emmanuel II, continued this tradition, employing renowned musicians like Radetsky and Vittorio Emmanuel. At the turn of the 19th century, Vittorio Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy, established the Royal Savoy Orchestra in Turin. In the same period, his brother, Victor Emmanuel II, founded the Military Band of the Savoy Royal Household in La Spezia. These musical ensembles flourished under the patronage of the Savoy family, contributing significantly to the cultural landscape of Europe. Garibaldi, the legendary Italian patriot, briefly ruled Savoy in the late 1850s. During his tenure, Vittorio Emmanuel II's Military Band continued to perform, reflecting the enduring influence of the Savoy family's musical legacy.
