"Exploring the Earth's History: A Field Study Adventure" Join us on a captivating journey through time as we delve into the fascinating world of geology and paleontology. Our field study takes us to various locations, each offering unique insights into our planet's ancient past. At Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, we uncover a mesmerizing sedimentary sequence that unveils the story of dinosaurs. From the vibrant red Triassic Chinle Formation in the foreground to the striking red and white cliffs of the Jurassic Entrada Formation, and finally, the majestic slopes of the Jurassic Morrison Formation - every layer holds clues to prehistoric life. In Rwanda's Parc des Volcan reservation, we visit Dian Fossey's house at Karisoke Camp. Here, amidst breathtaking volcanic landscapes, we learn about her groundbreaking research on gorillas and their conservation efforts. Venturing into Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park, we encounter black bears equipped with ear tags and radio collars for vital research purposes. Witnessing these magnificent creatures up close provides invaluable knowledge about their behavior and habitat. The Marine Mammal Center presents another intriguing facet of our field study as we witness a California Sea Lion named "Eisenhower" being released after rehabilitation. This project not only aids individual animals but also contributes to broader research initiatives focused on marine mammal health. Heading towards Channel Islands NP in San Miguel Island, California, we observe female California Sea Lions adorned with identification brands and flipper tags. These markings enable scientists to monitor population dynamics and gain insights into their migratory patterns. Our geological exploration brings us to K-T boundary sites near Casper in Wyoming. The Sussex locality reveals an unmistakable line indicating this significant boundary layer between Cretaceous Lance Formation above it - an essential marker for understanding mass extinctions throughout history. Dinosaur enthusiasts will be thrilled by our visit to Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada.
