In 1972, he showcased his skills by clinching victory in both the Junior and Senior Manx Grand Prix races riding for Dearden Norton. The following year, Rutter continued to dominate the track as he triumphed in the Production TT race astride a powerful Honda machine. Throughout his career, Rutter's prowess on two wheels was unmatched. In 1974, he joined Yamaha and conquered the Senior Manx Grand Prix once again, solidifying his status as one of the greatest racers of his time. In 1980 and 1982 Formula One TT events, he piloted a Chell Maxton Honda to victory against fierce competition. He returned to compete in classic events like the Classic TT where alongside Jan Strijbis (BSA), they formed an unstoppable duo aboard their Yamaha bikes. In 1991 at the Senior Classic Manx Grand Prix riding a Seeley machine, Rutter proved that age was no barrier when it came to showcasing skill and expertise on challenging circuits.
