The adorable harvest mouse, also known as Micromys minutus, never fails to amaze with its ingenious nesting habits. In the tranquil nature reserve of Norfolk, during a warm June day, a tiny harvest mouse was spotted using an unexpected item for its nest - a tennis ball. This clever creature had transformed the hollow sphere into a cozy abode amidst the lush greenery. In Hertfordshire, England, another delightful encounter took place as a harvest mouse gracefully climbed among delicate Cow Parsley. Its nimble movements and dainty appearance perfectly complemented the surrounding beauty of nature. Not only are these mice skilled climbers but they also possess impeccable grooming habits. A charming scene unfolded when one little Micromys minutus was caught on camera meticulously cleaning its nose on Common hogweed leaves. It seemed to take pride in maintaining its pristine appearance while perched delicately on this tall plant. During summer in Norfolk, it became evident that tennis balls were indeed popular choices for these resourceful creatures' nests. The sight of multiple harvest mice comfortably settled within their spherical homes showcased their adaptability and creativity. As autumn arrived in the UK, guelder rose bushes provided an enchanting backdrop for yet another glimpse into the life of these captivating rodents. Against vibrant red berries and golden foliage, a Eurasian harvest mouse could be seen exploring its surroundings with curiosity and grace. Devon proved to be another haven for these endearing creatures as they made themselves at home amongst various plants. From brambles to barley fields and frosty seedheads, each setting highlighted their ability to thrive in diverse environments throughout different seasons. Even under captive conditions in June or surrounded by wheat crops during summer months, these mice continued to captivate observers with their charm and playfulness. The incredible versatility displayed by Micromys minutus is truly remarkable.
