From the pages of Ichthyologie, or General Natural History, comes the enigmatic figure of Raymond Hecht, the artist behind plate XXXII featuring the Pike (Esox Lucio). Fast forward to the late 19th century, and we find another artist named W Hecht, who painted under the Arena and created masterpieces like 'The Death of Wallenstein' and collaborated with German artist Carl von Piloty. Leaping forward in time, we encounter Raymound Hecht, a different individual, born in 1894. This Raymound Hecht was an American journalist, novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, whose career spanned from the 1920s to the 1960s. His work was celebrated and caricatured, as seen in this 1922 Gene Markey illustration. The name Hecht, it seems, has been etched in history through the talents and contributions of these diverse and accomplished individuals.
