Herpes Zoster, also known as Shingles, is a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the Varicella-Zoster virus, which also causes Chickenpox. After a person recovers from Chickenpox, the virus lies dormant in the nerve roots near the spinal cord and can reactivate later in life, often due to stress, aging, or a weakened immune system. The resulting rash is characterized by a band or strip of blisters on one side of the body, and is often accompanied by severe pain, itching, and fever.
