Jose Guadalupe Posada: The Artist Behind the Prints Emiliano Zapata leaning on his gun, captured in a captivating etching made of zinc around 1911. This is just one of the many remarkable works by Jose Guadalupe Posada, an artist known for his drawings and prints. One of his most famous creations is a double murder scene titled "Puente de los Gallos. " It tells a chilling tale of betrayal and revenge through intricate details and haunting imagery. Posada's talent also extended to capturing everyday life in Mexico. In "La Verbena de Belen o Una Fiesta Pastoril, " he created a broadsheet that relates the execution of Dionisio Silverio, a notorious murderer facing a firing squad. The print serves as both news and entertainment for the masses. But not all of Posada's work was dark or macabre. He also had a lighter side, as seen in another broadsheet depicting a man standing outside his lover's window serenading her with song. In yet another broadsheet, Posada delves into traditional forms like zarzuela with "Chin-Chun-Chan, " featuring a great calavera (skull) character that adds humor to the narrative. He even ventured into storytelling through prints like "San Cristobal de las Casas, " where he narrates about miracles happening amidst crowds gathered at this sacred place. News stories were not exempt from being transformed into art by Posada either.
