In the margins of art and literature, hidden treasures await. From the delicate brushstrokes adorning The Peacock's Skirt to the profound wisdom found in Biblical Commentary (Fragment), these glimpses into another world captivate our imagination. Amongst the pages lies an Unidentified Fragment, a mystery waiting to be unraveled. And there, staring back at us with piercing eyes, is RF- Male Dog Otter/Eurasian Otter head profile. Captive yet wild at heart, it reminds us of the beauty that exists beyond our reach. Traveling through time, we encounter MS 1-2005, fol. 235v: Death Striking - a hauntingly intricate historiated initial from the Macclesfield Psalter. Its presence transports us to East Anglia in 1330 when Sarum was revered. Celtic Illumination takes us even further back in history to 1899 where vibrant watercolors bring ancient tales to life on vellum. Fol. 2R Incipit of the Prologue from Borso d'Este Bible Vol. 1 invites us into a sacred realm filled with divine inspiration. And then we find ourselves immersed in a different culture altogether as we gaze upon Detail of Humayun Seated in a Landscape from Late Shah Jahan Album - an exquisite testament to Mughal artistry and grandeur. But it is not just majestic scenes that grace these margins; they also hold whimsical surprises like A Hound and Rabbit Jousting or A Rabbit Funeral Procession found within MS 1-2005, fol. 151r and fol. 152r respectively – playful moments frozen forever on parchment. And amidst all this wonderment emerges unexpected characters like A Naked Musician depicted on MS 1-2005, fol. 80v from the Macclesfield Psalter – reminding us that even within serious works there can be room for lightheartedness.
