Onoe Eizaburo I, also known as Onoe Kikugoro III, was a renowned actor in the world of Japanese Kabuki theater. His talent and versatility on stage were unmatched, captivating audiences with his powerful performances. In one of his most iconic roles, Onoe Kikugoro III portrayed Nagoya Sanza in the play "Sato no Haru Meibutsu Amigasa" in 1827. The exquisite portrayal by Utagawa Kunisada captured the essence of this character's complexity and depth. Another notable performance was alongside Ichikawa Danjuro VII as Sukeroku and Onoe Kikugoro III as the white sake bottle in a play from around 1823. Utagawa Kunisada beautifully depicted their chemistry on stage, showcasing their exceptional acting skills. In one such print from around 1847, Bando Shuka I appeared as a Tea Picker (Chatsumi), while Ichimura Uzaemon XII portrayed a Monkey - both sharing the stage with our esteemed actor. The collaboration between Arashi Kichisaburo III as Aboshi Samojiro and Onoe Kikugoro II as Hamaji is another example of theatrical brilliance captured by Utagawa Kuniyoshi circa 1852. Their expressive faces conveyed emotions that resonated deeply with audiences. One cannot forget the unforgettable duo formed by Onoe Kikugoro III as Hayano Kanpei and Mimasu Gennosuke as Enya Hangan in 1822.
