Here, we catch a glimpse of an orange seller amidst the exotic streets of Algeria, their wares displayed with pride. Moving from North Africa to Venice, we encounter another depiction of an orange seller in "St. Mark's. " The artist skillfully captures the play of light and shadow as it dances upon their face while they tend to their citrus-filled cart. "Travelling in England - or a Peep from the White Horse Cellar" takes us closer to home but still offers a charming portrayal of daily life. Amongst bustling crowds and horse-drawn carriages, our orange seller stands out with their colorful display. The Piazza del Duomo comes alive in "Amanzia Guerillot Inganni. " Painted in 1850, this oil on canvas showcases an orange seller surrounded by architectural grandeur as they go about their trade. Delving into history, we find ourselves transported back to 1808 through Delpech's color litho print titled "Orange Seller. " This artwork captures not only the vibrancy of oranges but also hints at societal dynamics during that era. Thomas Rowlandson's "Box Lobby Loungers" provides a satirical take on society where even among luxurious surroundings; our humble orange seller finds space for commerce within opulence. "Cries of London" brings forth two more depictions: one from c1870 showcasing sweet China oranges and another from c1840 simply exclaiming "Oranges. " These prints remind us how these sellers' voices echoed through time as they announced their goods throughout city streets.
