From the rugged paths leading to the Tango monastery in Thimpu, Bhutan, to the challenging Dyea Trail en route to Chilkoot Pass during the Klondike Gold Rush, these resilient creatures have conquered it all. In a sepia photograph captured in 1914-15, Sikhs of the Indian Army stand proudly alongside their trusty pack horses in France.
