"Pasty: A Taste of Cornwall's Rich Mining Heritage and Culinary Delight" Step back in time to Regatta and Carnival Week, Fowey, Cornwall. August 1993, where the aroma of freshly baked pasties fills the air. This iconic Cornish delicacy has a history deeply rooted in the mining communities that once thrived here. Traveling further back to the late 1800s, we find ourselves at an unidentified mine in Cornwall. Two young miners take a well-deserved break during croust time, indulging in hearty pasties packed with sustenance for their demanding work underground. The year is now 1892 at East Pool Mine, Illogan, Cornwall. A group of exhausted Cornish miners finds solace at rest on the 310 level. Their trusty pasties provide them with nourishment and comfort amidst their grueling labor deep within the earth. Margaret Thatcher herself visits Marazion Community Centre, savoring a traditional Cornish pasty during her visit. Even political leaders appreciate this humble yet delicious treat that has become synonymous with Cornwall's culinary identity. Returning to East Pool Mine in 1893, we witness another snapshot of history as miners enjoy their much-needed respite from toil. These men understand firsthand how a piping hot they are rejuvenate both body and spirit after hours spent underground. South Condurrow Mine around 1900 offers us another glimpse into the lives of hardworking miners who relied on these savory parcels for sustenance throughout their arduous shifts below ground. Fast forward to February 20th, 1923 - Giew Mine at St Ives Consols welcomes a group of miners taking a pause from their laborious tasks. The camaraderie shared over shared bites of warm pasties strengthens bonds forged through years spent together within these treacherous mineshafts. Venturing beyond mining sites brings us to Padstow, Cornwall.
