The Puszta, also known as the Hungarian Steppe or Heath Country, is a captivating landscape that showcases the beauty of Hungary. One can witness the majestic Hungarian Grey or Hungarian Steppe Cattle (Magyar Szuerke) grazing peacefully amidst this vast expanse, and is a sight reminiscent of life amongst the wild horses of the Puszta, as depicted in an enchanting engraving from years gone by. In 1886, Tziganes camped in the heart of the Puszta, immersing themselves in its untamed allure. The grasshoppers and small bugs that inhabit this land add to its charm, captured beautifully by CM Dixon's artwork from the 20th century at Kortobacy Puszta. As one explores further into this wilderness, they may come across Przewalski's Horses or Takhi crossing a river with grace and elegance. These magnificent creatures are part of the wildlife that thrives within these lands. Traditional reed stacks stand tall against the horizon in Hortobagy National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage site located within the Hungarian Puszta. They serve as reminders of age-old customs and traditions deeply rooted in this region's history. A carriage ride through this picturesque landscape offers an unforgettable experience. As you traverse Eastern Europe's hidden gem - Hungary - you will encounter switch points on local railways near fish ponds near Hortobagy Halastavi Kisvasut; yet another testament to human ingenuity blending seamlessly with nature. At dawn, when silence envelops everything around you, white storks perch upon their nests silhouetted against vibrant skies. Their presence adds an ethereal touch to this already mesmerizing scene found only in the Hungarian Puszta.
