Robert Pollard, a renowned artist from the late 18th to early 19th century, left an indelible mark on the art world with his exquisite creations. Born in Lambeth in 1785, Pollard's talent blossomed under the guidance of Francis Jukes. Together, they crafted masterpieces like "Vauxhall Gardens, " capturing the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic London venue. In 1787, Pollard showcased his artistic prowess once again with "Highbury Place, " a captivating depiction of Islington's charm. His attention to detail and ability to bring scenes to life were unparalleled. Another notable work by Pollard was "Assassination attempt on King George III. " Collaborating with Jukes once more, they immortalized this historic event through their artistry. Pollard's versatility extended beyond historical events; he also excelled at portraying everyday life. In "Preparing for the Chase" and "Breaking Cover, " both created around 1955 by unknown artists but attributed to him due to their style, he captured moments filled with anticipation and excitement. One cannot discuss Robert Pollard without mentioning his collaboration with Thomas Rowlandson. Their joint efforts resulted in captivating pieces such as "A Bacchante" and an enchanting portrayal of Vauxhall Gardens from an earlier era. Among Pollard's most poignant works is "The Death - Postponed. " Created in 1922 but set in 1822, it reflects his ability to evoke emotions through art while exploring themes of mortality and uncertainty. Pollard's contributions were not limited to paintings alone; he also ventured into printmaking alongside JG Wells for the iconic piece titled "Battle of Copenhagen 1801. British Fleet Approaching. " This artwork showcases their combined talents as they depicted a pivotal moment in history. Additionally, another remarkable creation by Pollard was a print depicting a barge crossing Barton aqueduct over Irwell in Salford, Greater Manchester.
