"Capturing the Charm of Rowhouses: A Glimpse into Different Eras and Places" Step back in time to Washington, D. C. Between 1941 and 1942, where children play on the steps of row houses captured by Louise Rosskam. These iconic structures stand as a testament to community and family life. Moving further down N and Union Streets S. W. , still in Washington, D. C. , we find ourselves surrounded by row houses at the corner. The lens of Louise Rosskam once again transports us to an era where these architectural gems were prominent features of urban landscapes. Venturing beyond Washington, Pennsylvania beckons with its own unique blend of history. In 1935, Walker Evans immortalized Bethlehem's graveyard juxtaposed against a steel mill—a poignant reminder of the coexistence between life and industry. Continuing our journey through Evans' lens, we arrive at New Orleans' Negro street in Louisiana during the same year. Here, row houses line the vibrant streetscape—an embodiment of resilience amidst adversity. Evans also takes us back to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1935—this time capturing a simple yet captivating street scene that showcases rows upon rows of charming homes nestled together harmoniously. Stepping even further into history brings us to Plestin in 1902—the Breton Market Town depicted by Theophile Alexandre Steinlen. Rows upon rows of quaint row houses create a picturesque setting that exudes old-world charm. Traveling alongside Steinlen's brush strokes leads us down another village road from the same year—a path lined with inviting row houses that seem frozen in time; each one telling its own story within this idyllic tableau. Intriguingly titled "Tramp Passing Through a Sleeping Village, " Steinlen's work offers an intimate glimpse into both human transience and enduring architecture—row houses standing strong despite changing times. Delving deeper into history reveals Opern-Ring No.
