Saltwater fish are a diverse and fascinating group of creatures that inhabit the vast oceans around the world. From the common carp with its intricate anatomy to the unique features of globefish and sunfish, there is so much to discover about these underwater marvels. Exploring their natural history, we come across the Plectognathi family, which includes fish like pufferfish and triggerfish. Their distinctive appearances make them stand out in any marine environment. Looking back at an illustration from 1896, we can admire the majestic black sea bass as it gracefully swims through the depths. Another captivating sight is that of an European sturgeon captured in a side view illustration. This ancient species has been swimming in our waters for centuries, reminding us of their resilience and importance in our ecosystems. Venturing into warmer waters, we encounter lemon sharks roaming near Northern Bahamas and Caribbean shores. These sleek predators exude power and grace as they glide effortlessly through their oceanic domain. Traveling eastward to Japan, we find a mesmerizing depiction of fish alongside bamboo by Maezawa Otei from the 1860s. The delicate balance between nature's elements is beautifully captured in this artwork. In American waters, red snapper reign supreme among game fishes. Their vibrant colors and delicious taste have made them popular targets for anglers seeking "The Big Catch. " But amidst all this beauty lies some humor - sushi love. Who can resist those delectable bites wrapped in seaweed? It's a culinary delight that brings joy to many palates worldwide. However, not all fish have such innocent intentions when it comes to food. "The Greedy One" showcases a predator fiercely devouring its prey with voracious appetite – survival instincts at play. And then there's "The Scream, " capturing a moment frozen in time where one unlucky fish realizes its fate within another creature's jaws – a reminder of life's harsh realities in the underwater realm.
