Sanzio Raphael, also known simply as Raphael, was a renowned Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance period. His works are characterized by their exquisite beauty, attention to detail, and harmonious compositions. One of his notable masterpieces is "Venus and Cupid riding two sea monsters, " where the goddess of love is depicted alongside her mischievous son on a captivating journey through the depths of the sea. Cupid raises an arrow in his right hand, ready to strike anyone with love's enchanting power. Another remarkable artwork influenced by Raphael is a series of grotesque paintings found in the Vatican loggias in Rome. Created by an unknown artist in 1928, these intricate designs showcase fantastical creatures intertwined with delicate foliage patterns. Raphael's influence extended beyond his own creations; he inspired other artists such as the Master of the Die who recreated "The Olympian gods at the marriage feast of Cupid and Psyche. " This piece captures a momentous event where divine beings gather to celebrate love's union. In another interpretation from ca. 1517-20 by Marcantonio Raimondi titled "The Three Graces sitting on clouds, " we witness ethereal figures gracefully perched on heavenly cushions while cupid playfully hovers nearby. The scene echoes Raphael's fresco painting and exudes elegance and charm. Jupiter embracing Cupid after Raphaels fresco can be seen in Chigi Gallery at Villa Farnesca during ca. 1517-20 created by Marcantonio Raimondi which portrays Jupiter tenderly embracing his beloved son amidst celestial surroundings. One cannot overlook Raphael's iconic work called "The Sistine Madonna" painted by Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Müller that showcases Mary holding baby Jesus surrounded by cherubic angels gazing up towards them with awe-struck expressions. Gerard Edelinck pays homage to Raphael through his engraving titled "Holy Family of Jesus Christ.
