"Unlikely Allies: A Black Bear and a Grey Squirrel, Masters of Scavenging" In the vast wilderness of Minnesota, an adult male Black Bear named TOM 86 roams freely. With its keen sense of smell and powerful claws, this majestic creature is a true scavenger. It effortlessly scours the forest floor for fallen fruits, nuts, and carrion left behind by other animals. Meanwhile, across the pond in the UK during September, a mischievous Grey Squirrel finds itself trapped inside a supposedly squirrel-proof bird feeder. Undeterred by human inventions meant to keep it away from bird food, this resourceful little scavenger manages to find its way into even the most challenging situations. High above in Chilean Patagonia's Torres del Paine National Park soars an Andean Condor - another remarkable scavenger. With its massive wingspan and sharp eyesight, it gracefully glides through the sky in search of carcasses to feast upon. Delving deep into history now, we come across a fascinating trilobite fossil - evidence of ancient creatures that once roamed our planet millions of years ago. These arthropods were skilled at scavenging on decaying matter on the ocean floor. Moving back to present times but staying within Spain's Pyrenees region is where we encounter an extraordinary Bearded Vulture or Lammergeier. This bone-eating specialist bird possesses a 10-foot maximum wing-span and can be found across various countries as it seeks out carcass bones as its primary source of sustenance. Intriguingly enough, even prehistoric times witnessed acts of scavenging when an Alvarezsaurid bird was captured cleaning the mouth of a Giganotosaurus carolinii dinosaur – showcasing nature's unique symbiotic relationships between species. Venturing beyond Earth's boundaries brings us face-to-face with alien landscapes inhabited by lone Star Fighter pilots.
