Discover the fascinating world (Echeneis naucrates) in the vibrant waters of Indonesia. This adult Sharksucker, with its distinctive suction disk, is shown in a close-up of its head, resting on the black sand of Lembeh Straits, Sulawesi and can known for their symbiotic relationship with various marine creatures, including sharks and fish. In this series of images, we see a Sharksucker attached to a Map Pufferfish (Arothron mappa) in Waigeo Island, Raja Ampat, and several Whitetip Reef Sharks (Triaenodon obesus) in Sipadan Island, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. The sharks often allow the Sharksucker to hitchhike on their bodies, providing the remora with a free ride and the shark with a cleaning service. In return, the Sharksucker feeds on parasites and dead skin cells of its host. The images also show the Whitetip Reef Shark being cleaned by both the Sharksucker and the Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus), highlighting the cooperative nature of the marine ecosystem.
