Speedwells, also known as Veronica, are a diverse group of flowering plants found in various regions across Europe and Anatolia. From the Large Speedwell in Bavaria, Germany to the Wetland Speedwell in the Kaskar Mountains of Turkey, these vibrant blooms bring beauty to their surroundings. In Bavaria, Germany, the Large Speedwell (Veronica teucrium) stands tall and proud against a backdrop of lush greenery. Its delicate blue flowers create a stunning contrast against its dark foliage. Moving eastward to Anatolia, Turkey, we find the Wetland Speedwell (Veronica oxycarpa) flourishing amidst the majestic Kaskar Mountains. With its vibrant blossoms adorning damp ground beside a sparkling stream at 2000m above sea level, this species is truly captivating. Further west in Thetford, Norfolk England during March, we encounter the Fingered Speedwell (Veronica triphyllos). This enchanting flower graces us with its presence early in spring when nature awakens from its winter slumber. Venturing into French Pyrenees' Heas Valley during June reveals another variety - Rock Speedwell (Veronica fruticans). Growing on acid rock formations and displaying dainty purple flowers against rugged terrain showcases nature's resilience and adaptability. As we journey through different landscapes and climates across Europe and Anatolia, one thing remains constant - Germander Speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys). Whether it be Kent or Dolomites or even back to Kent again in June; this versatile plant never fails to captivate our hearts with its intricate flowers and charming flowerbuds. From mountain peaks to wetlands and rocky valleys alike speedwells thrive wherever they call home. Their diversity reminds us of nature's ability to adapt and flourish under various conditions. So next time you come across these delightful blooms on your travels or even within your own backyard, take a moment to appreciate their beauty and the wonders of our natural world.
