The annual steam rally in Tarland, Aberdeenshire, brought together a remarkable collection of vintage traction engines that had traveled far and wide to participate. One such engine was the 1925 Hielan Laddie, which made a long journey from Aberdeen and required an extensive clean-up before taking center stage. On the 13th of June 1958, Popeye positioned himself for the upcoming traction engine rally, ready to showcase his magnificent machine. Michael Charlton from Dudley proudly displayed his beloved 1988 Burrell traction engine on the eventful day of September 13th. Meanwhile, Mr. Walter Hodson posed alongside the impressive steam roller Highland Lass on June 2nd, 1972. Model engineer Eddie Chapman engaged in friendly conversation while sitting atop his half-ton miniature steam traction engine at the rally grounds. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as veteran traction engines lined up with their boilers fired up for thrilling races at Lambton. In one exhilarating moment during a race at the rally grounds, Jack Makepeace Jr. , skillfully maneuvered his vehicle past various obstacles while emitting puffs of smoke behind him. Not limited to races alone, this extraordinary gathering also featured unique events like a tug-of-war between powerful traction engines and even tanks. On June 10th, 1961, these mechanical giants engaged in a battle of strength that left spectators awestruck. At another occasion held on June 12th in Corbridge during the Vintage Car and Steam Engine Show; attendees marveled at Henry Thompson's Foden Steam Wagon as it built up an impressive head of steam before setting off on its journey through time. Year after year, enthusiasts flock to these captivating rallies where history comes alive through the majestic presence of these steam-powered marvels.
